Self-described as “unapologetically New York,” Awake NY founder and former Supreme brand director Angelo Baque values his city as a cultural juncture. In under a decade, Baque has distinguished Awake NY as a stronghold of contemporary men's streetwear. Collections draw sartorial inspiration from vintage hip hop staples, including classic Polo-inspired pastels and a throwback to early-90s Queens via stylized graphics referencing the Shirt Kings. Through collaborations with Moncler 1952 and streetwear giants such as Carhartt WIP, Timberland, and Reebok, Baque has found ways to homage some of hip hop’s founding fathers: Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, and Slick Rick. Re-envisioning 90s-tinged, hip hop looks for today's socially-engaged audience, Baque prides himself on championing NYC's rich, cross-cultural aesthetic sensibility.
