The New Zealand-based streetwear label Stolen Girlfriends Club exudes protopunk irreverence. After suffering a debilitating back injury, former competitive surfer Marc Moore started painting, an endeavor that culminated in a solo exhibition called “Stolen Girlfriends Club” in 2004. The brand was forged when Moore paired up with longtime friend Dan Gosling to print the artwork onto T-shirts. Stolen Girlfriends Club has since evolved to boast a uniquely cheeky aesthetic that branches into every sphere. Self-professed music junkies, the designers channel underground new wave imagery into their range of bold slogan T-shirts, ring boxes, and sculptural ashtrays. Casually tailored shirts and trousers, expertly fitted jeans, gold and sterling silver jewelry, and a loud homeware collection cement Stolen Girlfriends Club as a singular, grunge-inflected entity within the world of fashion and design.
