Founded in LA in 2007 by Greg Chait, The Elder Statesman trades in free-spirited, yet polished looks that channel a standard of relaxed openness. Known primarily for its luxuriously comfortable cashmere, but increasingly also for imaginative knit and woven textiles, the label’s light and refined pieces appear in evocative bright and pastel colors. Impeccably soft hand-painted, dyed, and occasionally tie-dyed sweaters, scarves, tops, and trousers are rendered in airy, bouncy cuts. Nods to desert, beach, and interstellar themes evoke the mythology of the American road trip, while Chait’s interests in cross-cultural pollination and juxtaposition routinely bring in new influences, from Guatemalan to Navajo.
